THE NAVY and yellow colours of Stourbridge Swimming Club were dominant in the first round of the Worcester Winter League.

Stour fielded two teams in the event at Droitwich, with the A side winning the event and the B outfit finishing third.

The A team took an incredible 25 wins in 40 races, with Becki Cole collecting a hat-trick in the butterfly, freestyle and backstroke.

Britt Horton, Nat Dingley, Adam Horton, Alex Westwood and Ed Povey won two races apiece, while Ellie Wood, Aaron Costigan, Joe Hamilton, Phil Harrington, Scott Allin and Tom McCallum were also successful on the night as their team finished 30 points clear of their nearest challengers.

The B side weren’t far behind, with Lauren Sanders finish second to Cole in the open age backstroke.

Matt McCallum made it a Stourbridge one-two in the freestyle and Michael Sedgley impressed in the backstroke.

Manager John Sanders said: “This puts both teams into a very strong position going into the second round of the league.

“All of our swimmers were outstanding and we cannot wait for the next round.”
