Duo bag braces in Kings win

12:40pm Friday 3rd February 2012

COLIN Morris and Billy Jawanda scored two each as Kingswinford Hockey Club recorded a 5-3 win at Ludlow.

Kings were missing five first team regulars but began in an attacking formation, with Jawanda, Kam Maan and Kaz Purewal causing problems for the hosts down the right.

The first goal arrived after 10 minutes when Cole Hickman laid the ball off for Jawanda to stroke home.

Hickman turned provider again on 15 minutes as he set up Morris for the second of the game.

The onslaught arrived at the start of the second-half as Kings scored three times in the opening 10 minutes, to open up an unassailable 5-0 lead. Morris, Jawanda and Surjit Takhar were all on target.

Ludlow managed to pull three goals back as Kings dropped the pace and had sweeper Sharm Dhaliwal sin-binned but the game was already over.

The seconds were also involved in a high-scoring encounter but they lost 4-3 at home to West Bromwich.

Only quality saves from Kings’ keeper Mark Stevenson kept the scores level in the early stages, before Daman Johal showed off his dribbling skills to give the hosts the lead.

But the advantage was short-lived as a defensive mix-up saw the visitors level.

West Bromwich took the lead early in the second-half but veteran Kuldip Randhawa came off the bench to make it 2-2 and Johal then put Kings back in front.

However, there was a sting in the tail as the visitors equalised from a penalty corner and then snatched a winner.
