Workers evacuated during Lye furnace fire

WORKERS at a foundry in Lye were evacuated from the scene of a blaze after metal ignited in a furnace.

Firefighters were called to Boro Foundry Limited at 9.15am yesterday (Wednesday February 8) where one-and-a-half tonnes of molten iron caught fire.

Employees were removed to a safe area while officers wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames.

Crews left the scene at 10am, the metal was left to cool under the supervision of foundry staff.
