1:00pm Monday 6th February 2012
A BRIERLEY Hill man who last year raised nearly £1,500 for good causes has been sharing the cash between deserving charities.
Gurcharan Singh Bedi donated £729 each to the White House cancer support centre in Dudley and Mary Stevens Hospice in memory of his late wife, Surjeet Kaur Bedi who died in April 2008.
Mrs Bedi, aged 56, worked at the family business, Bedi Store in Brierley Hill and in 1991, was commended for bravery by a crown court judge after using a pair of scissors to scare off an armed robber in the shop.
Janet Jones, fundraising development manager at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “Mr Bedi and his family have supported Mary Stevens Hospice for several years with family fun days and collections such as this and their time and enthusiasm is very much appreciated together with those that have contributed to the fundraising”.
