Wollaston swimmer makes a splash for charity appeal
5:00pm Sunday 5th February 2012

SPONSORS of a Wollaston teen swimmer splashed out more than £400 for an appeal to help a disabled boy.
Mohammed Haroon Arif swam 55 lengths in an hour at Dudley Leisure Centre to raise £430 for six-year-old Luis Hickman from Amblecote, who has a rare genetic illness and is unable to talk or walk.
Kind-hearted Mohammed, aged 13, decided to do his bit after the Hickman family launched an appeal in the Stourbridge News for help to pay for specialist equipment for Luis.
Mohammed, who is a pupil at Edgecliff School in Kinver, said: “When I read about Luis in the newspaper I told my mum that I wanted to do something to help his family.
”I’m really proud of myself for completing the swim and I’d like to say a really big thank you to everyone who was kind enough to sponsor and support Luis.”
Councillor David Stanley, Dudley Council cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “Congratulations to Mohammed on finishing his sponsored swim, I’m delighted that he has managed to raise so much money for such a worthy and local cause."
